Privacy policy

The short version. Jerry is an AI job coach. It uses what you tell it, your CV and, only if you connect them, parts of your Google or Microsoft account to help you land a sales job. We don't sell your data, we don't show you ads, and your data never trains AI models. Jerry only drafts: nothing is sent or created in your accounts until you reply yes. You can delete everything at any time by typing !delete in the chat.

Who we are

Jerry (textjerry.com) is run by AlwaysHired ("we", "us"). We decide how your personal data is used for Jerry and we're responsible for it. Questions or requests: gabe@alwayshired.com.

Jerry is an AI, not a person. It tells you so in its first message.

What we collect

When you sign in

If you signed up with Discord, we receive your Discord username, user ID, profile picture and verified email address, and ask Discord to add you to the AlwaysHired server once you're approved (we keep an encrypted Discord token until then).

If you log in on textjerry.com with your phone number (US and German numbers only), we text a 6-digit code to it through an SMS provider. We keep your number, a scrambled copy of the code and the time for up to a day, and nothing at all for other numbers. Once you enter the code you're a member if you're approved or came with an invite; otherwise you're on the waitlist and we keep only your number until the AlwaysHired team reviews it.

If you log in on textjerry.com by text, the page shows a one-time code that you text to Jerry, and you reply YES to confirm. We keep a record of that login (a scrambled copy of the code, a rough description of the browser such as "Chrome on a Mac", your number and the times) for up to a day, and a cookie keeps that browser logged in for 30 days. Texting "log out everywhere" ends every login at once.

If you text Jerry

If you text Jerry (iMessage or SMS), we receive your phone number. Without an invite you're on the waitlist, and we keep only your number until the AlwaysHired team reviews it; your messages aren't stored until you have access. Texts travel through a messaging provider and your phone carrier or Apple.

If your iMessage texts Jerry from your Apple ID email instead of your number, Jerry texts that email a link: you log in with your number and confirm (or you reply with your number and confirm by text from it). Once you confirm, we keep that email address on your membership so its texts reach your account, and we let your number know. Remove it any time on your account page; it's also removed when you delete your account. A request nobody confirmed is deleted within a day.

What you share with Jerry

Apps you choose to connect

If you connect Google or Microsoft 365, we store the access tokens those services give us (encrypted) and the account email, and we use the parts of the account described below, only when needed for what you asked.

Technical data

Your IP address is checked briefly in memory to stop abuse (rate limits) and isn't stored. We use only the cookies needed to keep you signed in. No analytics, advertising or tracking cookies. We keep a short log of which actions ran for your account (for example "calendar event created") to keep the service safe and within limits; it never contains email or file content.

How we use it

We never use your data for advertising, and we never sell it. We never share your profile or CV with an employer without asking you first.

Legal basis (for people in the EU/UK): we process your data to provide the service you signed up for (contract), with your consent for connected apps (you can withdraw it any time by disconnecting), and in our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure.

Data from your Google account

Connecting Google is optional. Jerry works fully in the chat without it. If you connect, Google shows you exactly what Jerry asks for, and you can untick anything. Jerry asks for:

Permission (as Google shows it)What Jerry does with it
Your email addressShows which Google account you connected.
See, edit, create and delete only the specific Google Drive files you use with this appCreates your CV, cover letters and interview prep in Google Docs and your job tracker in Google Sheets, inside a "Jerry" folder in your Drive, and reads those files back to update them. Jerry can't see any other file in your Drive.
Send email on your behalfSends an email only after you've seen the full draft (recipient, subject and text) in the chat and replied yes. Nothing is ever sent without that yes. Jerry can't read your inbox.
View and edit events on all your calendarsWhen you ask, reads your upcoming events (for example to prep you for tomorrow's interview), and adds an event only after you've seen the details and replied yes.

How Google data is used, stored and shared

Jerry's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Disconnect any time: on your settings page (type !settings in the chat), or in your Google Account at myaccount.google.com/connections. Deleting your data also revokes Jerry's access.

Data from Microsoft 365

Connecting Microsoft 365 (Outlook, OneDrive, Word, Excel) is optional too, and the same rules apply as for Google: only for what you ask, nothing sent or created without your yes, never sold or used for ads or AI training. If you connect it, Jerry can: when you ask, search and read your Outlook email (for example recruiter replies); send an email only after you've seen the full draft and replied yes; read your upcoming events and add one after you reply yes; create your CV and job tracker as Word and Excel files in a "Jerry" folder in OneDrive; when you ask, open a file in your OneDrive, such as an older CV. You can remove access at myapps.microsoft.com or on your settings page.

Who we share data with

We use a small number of trusted service providers to run Jerry. Each gets only what it needs for its part:

We may also disclose data if the law requires it, to protect people's safety, or as part of a merger or sale of AlwaysHired, in which case your data stays protected by this policy and we'll tell you first.

How long we keep it, and deleting it

We keep your data while you're a member. Phone numbers get passed on to new people, so if you don't text Jerry for 6 months, we disconnect your apps, end your web logins and delete your profile, CV, pipeline and chat history; your membership stays. Delete it any time:

Copies in our backups are overwritten within 30 days. To also remove the record our sign-in provider keeps, or to get a copy of your data, email gabe@alwayshired.com.

How we protect it

Everything travels over HTTPS. Access tokens for connected apps are encrypted at rest. The server only lets Jerry reach what it needs and keeps no web access logs (links can carry private tokens), and only a few AlwaysHired staff can reach the systems. No system is perfectly secure, so if something ever goes wrong we'll tell affected members and the authorities as the law requires.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California) you can ask to access, correct, delete or export your data, object to or restrict how we use it, and withdraw consent. Most of this you can do yourself in the chat or on your settings page; for the rest email us and we'll answer within 30 days. We don't sell or "share" personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. In the EU/UK you can also complain to your data protection authority.

Age

Jerry is for adults looking for work: you must be 18 or older to use it.

Where data is processed

Our providers process data in the United States and the European Union. Where data moves between them we rely on the safeguards the law requires, such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

Changes

If we change this policy we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change matters for how your data is used, Jerry will tell you in the chat first.
